tooth mates

Tooth Mates is an oral health promotion program designed for preschool and primary school children.

Children learn how to brush their teeth correctly and about a tooth friendly diet. This is done through a fun and interactive session.

Importantly, children are given a dental evaluation and individualised parental feedback.

The program has been well received and will help schools and early learning centres deliver an important dental health message to children.

Early childhood intervention for oral health has been prioritised by the NSW Department of Health. Recently, NSW Health released findings from a Child Dental Health Survey conducted in 2007. It concluded that preventive and early intervention programs should be implemented and oral health should be a key area of action. Survey results showed 40% of primary school children in NSW have experienced dental caries by age 5 years.

It is important that schools and early learning centres work with oral health educators like Total Excel to reduce the alarmingly high incidence of dental decay in children.

Our Tooth Mates program meets National Childcare Accreditation Council Quality Area 6 Evidence.

   tooth buds

Tooth Buds was developed as oral health education for Parents. It is informative, aiming at raising dental awareness in the community.

Tooth Buds sessions have been presented to mothers to be, mother’s groups and parents of preschool and primary school age children, carers and teachers.

It is designed to give adults a better understanding of children’s oral health and help them raise children with a healthy dentition.

Knowing the alarming findings from a recent Survey regarding Oral Health in Children, it is important that parents and carers are educated and informed, thus, empowering them in making right decisions.

Habits are formed early and we aim to encourage parents and carers to help children in developing healthy dental habits.
